At one time or another since 2013, every single member of my family has worked out with Julia. While others have moved on (to Crossfit – I know, crazy…) and out (the kids), I have kept going to Julia because with her help, I have been able to improve my balance, flexibility, strength, and stamina.
I have fewer episodes of back and joint pain and have no problems riding my bicycle which has become my favorite thing to do. With Julia’s help, I not only can keep up with all the other people I ride with, but I often LEAVE THEM IN MY DUST! Oh, and did I mention I am 68?!
I attribute the improvements in my balance, flexibility, strength, and overall stamina to my sessions with Julia. I am not a very disciplined person when it comes to exercise and could not have accomplished this without her.
Lest you think that Julia is only about the exercise regime, she also helps clients focus on healthy eating, sharing shopping expertise, smoothie recipes, and so much more. She works with her clients holistically helping them to make healthy lifestyle choices.
I really feel that Julia is sincerely interested in me achieving my goals and this motivates me to continue to pursue the challenges she designs for me.
I was a multi-sport athlete through college, and as an adult, I enjoyed competitive basketball and long distance running. At the age of 56, an accumulation of sport injuries limited my athletic and fitness pursuits to slow and easy training using only cardio equipment. However, at the age of 63 and after ten months of training with Julia, my physical and human potential see no limits.
After a thorough consultation and movement assessment, Julia detailed the strength program for my knee as well as my other injuries (neck, elbow, shoulders, hips, and back). Within a couple of months, I’d accomplished my immediate goal of regaining total body strength and function, and I was once again pursuing pain-free lifestyle activities.
Julia’s multi-faceted training approach has helped me improve my muscular endurance and strength (especially core); cardiovascular endurance; flexibility; and balance. Each session is the best hour of my day. The joy of being “fit” in body, mind, and spirit has been so rewarding. With much gratitude, I thank you Julia!!
When I first started working with Julia in December 2014, my goals were modest: lose some weight, get in better shape, and become stronger. I hadn’t exercised consistently since high school, and though I was still physically active through my landscaping business, I’d lost a lot of my flexibility and conditioning and had been favoring an arthritic right knee with no cartilage for over 6 years. My balance and mobility were almost non-existent. And my nutrition was pretty atrocious. I’d been wanting to get a handle on my physical health for a long-time and was finally ready.
Only four weeks into the program, the physical and emotional benefits started to show. I had more energy and was more determined than ever to make these changes a permanent part of my lifestyle. After 11 months, I’d lost over 21 lbs of fat and had became so much better conditioned I felt like throwing the discus for the fun of it. Mind you, it had been over 45 years since I’d thrown in my last high school meet.
Julia mentioned there were Senior Olympic competitions in New England and throughout the country. I was soon hooked on training in the shot put, discus, javelin and hammer for all the New England meets and qualified for the National Senior Olympic meet in Birmingham, AL 2017. As I trained and competed Julia adapted my program to reflect my specific events and needs. The result has been over 35 medals and ribbons won, competing in 2017 Nationals, and qualifying for the 2019 Nationals in Albuquerque, NM. Who would have known? Julia embraced my goals, adjusted her training techniques, and continued to support and motivate me throughout the ups and downs of year-round training.
I finally need a partial knee replacement for my arthritic right knee in March 2018. Before that surgery, Julia helped me gain strength, flexibility and fitness with my legs, particularly the muscles around my knees. This pre-surgery conditioning program, along with a wonderful team of professional associated with Julia (i.e., Dr. Kevin Pelton, Chiropractor and Guerrino Boni, Physical Therapist) served me well with my post-surgery recovery that resulted in my returning to Olympic training 7 weeks after surgery! And within 3 months post-surgery, I was back competing. I continue to see both Dr. Kevin Pelton and Guerrino Boni for other ailments that affect my sports performance because I trust their techniques and knowledge.
To say that Julia has helped transform me into a National Senior Olympic Athlete is an understatement. My transformation has included becoming stronger, more flexible, better conditioned and successful not only in my Olympic competitions, but also in my personal and business life accomplishments. Julia’s knowledge, coaching style, adaptability, support, motivation and friendship have guided me to where I am today…healthy, fit, successful and performing at a high level in Senior Olympic Track & Field throwing events at age 66. I am proof that her coaching style and techniques work, having taken me from an overweight, out-of-shape 61-year-old to a two time National Senior Olympic athlete. I am deeply indebted to Julia for all she has done for me…and she can do the same for you!
I have been working out in some form all my life. The last 10 years my focus had been on my amateur boxing career. However after multiple injuries, I realized that I needed back off boxing a bit and find another exercise outlet. Julia's ad popped up on Facebook one day so I decided I'd give her a call.. I was a little skeptical the first few months because I had become accustomed to having my body beat up, literally! I wasn't sure how this "listening to my body" and "stopping when it didn't feel good" would play out!?!
No pain no gain right? Wrong!
Julia has taught me that when it doesn't feel good, your body needs a break, and that's ok! I admit I struggled with this the first few months, but I kept with her methods. Once I started seeing results, I realized that this is EXACTLY what my body needed. Time to heal.
After about 4 months of her "nicer" workouts and figuring out some nutrition issues (also with Julia's help), I am excited that I am so much stronger, healthier, and body aware!
I've dropped over 17 pounds of fat and added over 7 pounds of lean muscles. I'm really happy about these changes, but what's even MORE IMPORTANT to me is the feeling my strength during workouts instead of pain. Julia tailors the workouts to fit my needs, and adjusts for my injuries and pains at any given time.
Also, with her nutritional counseling, she helped me figure out foods that don't work for me and encouraged me to see a specialist that diagnosed a thyroid disease I never knew I had!
I highly recommend Julia to anyone looking to make a change to their "hard core workout routine" and do something nice for their body, that really works!
“How’s your body feelin’ today?” This simple question separates Coach Julia Girman’s philosophy and workout culture from all other trainers and programs I’ve worked with in the past. Not only were my workouts 100% designed and tailored FOR ME but I also learned to develop my own internal compass and that's been really transformative for me.
Let me start with the stats. From December 2016 to November 2017, I’m proud to say I dropped 12 lbs and almost 6% body fat while gaining a significant amount of lean muscle mass!!! I feel stronger and waaaay more confident. My clothes fit better. I even fit into a gorgeous dress that I bought for a black tie event, and I felt awesome in it!
MOST IMPORTANTLY though, I’ve learned to appreciate what my body CAN DO rather than being frustrated by my limitations. I have 3 disks in my lower back that are problematic, and it seemed for a while I was heading for surgery. However, through the combined efforts of my "dream team" - Physical Therapist Guerrino Boni, owner of Form & Function Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, and Coach JG - I have strengthened my core and learned how to carry myself in a way that protects my funky disks, thereby avoiding surgery & living my life feeling strong and empowered!
Also, the nutrition knowledge I gained from Coach Julia over the past year has been LIFE-CHANGING. I learned to shop differently, do multi-day meal prep, and make choices that fuel my body. Do I love to cook? Nope. But I am much more proactive with my food management week to week and have learned shortcuts and strategies to keep me on track. While I was reluctant at first, I eventually agreed to do an elimination diet where I gave up soy, dairy, eggs, corn & gluten for 3 weeks, then introduced each back into my diet one at a time & logged my body’s response. Turns out I’m gluten and corn sensitive! It hasn’t been as difficult as I originally thought to make lasting changes to my diet based on these findings, and I feel SO much better!!!
Moving forward, I'm working in 2018 to continue to apply what I learned from Coach Julia, and I’m also focusing on doing more yoga, all with the mindset of, “How’s your body feeling today?” I am so grateful for the guidance, support, compassion, and inspiration I received from Coach JG!!! ❤️
I attempted to workout during my twenties, but after a few months here and there, it didn't stick. There's only so much treadmill, stair master, and group classes you can take. I was also diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, so it made working out painful. I had no idea what proper form was.
My thirties were dedicated to birthing my two children, nursing them, and building my law practice. By my forties, I knew I needed to do something for my health. I wasn't ever extremely heavy, but at 5'1" and 142 lbs I wasn't feeling well. When my husband began working out with Julia in 2012, and he suggested I do the same. It's amazing how working with a trainer can make the difference. You learn proper form thereby avoiding injury. Four years later, I'm stronger and the fittest I've ever been.
I loved how Julia would push me to do more. It was as if she knew how much I could work before I did. Then she moved to Rhode Island later that year after completing her Master’s program. I always had her in the back of mind as I continued to workout. I did well for a while, but then old habits began to creep in: sneaking “certain” foods and not giving it my all at the gym. My husband noticed I wasn't happy with this backward slide. Toward the end of 2014, he contacted Julia, and we began our Skype training in February 2015.
Encouraged and reinspired to be training with Julia again, my husband and I decided to set the goal of running our FIRST MARATHON in Disney in JANUARY 2016. Though we had our work set out for us, Julia was able to devise a workout plan that helped strengthen our full body, but with an emphasis on the running muscles. She also helped us develop and implement healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits to work on monthly.
I have seen a huge difference in body and mind. I'm more confident in my athleticism. I can't believe I've been able to pick up running now in my 40s, when I couldn’t do it in my 20s! This year alone I've completed one marathon, three half marathons, a 10K, and numerous 5Ks. I've also been able to get friends to run with us and change their lifestyle. Now they want to complete a half marathon in the spring. Everything I've learned from you, I've been able to share.
Thank you Julia! We look forward to continuing our journey with you!
As a busy professional woman in my late 40’s I had several things working against me – lack of time, slowing metabolism, decreasing energy, and a long commute. I had recently gained an extra 20 pounds that really impacted me both emotionally and physically. I was finding it hard to do the things that always came easy for me. For example, getting out of the tub was now problematic; gardening was becoming a task and not an enjoyment; and I was noticing that my knees were hurting more and more. I had low self-esteem, no energy, and increased anxiety about social outings.
That was when a friend turned me onto Julia Girman. Right off the bat I knew our personalities were a great match. Her professionalism, knowledge, and motivational skills were exceptional from day one.
During our initial consult, we discussed my fitness goals before getting started. From there, she worked to create a Person-Centered exercise and nutritional program specialized to me which has now become a healthy way of life that I have been able to stick with & maintain. After just 4 weeks of training with Julia, I noticed that my fitness had improved by leaps and bounds. My body shape was changing, but more importantly, I noticed a huge change in how I felt about myself. My energy level was up, and I was already becoming more active on a daily basis. During our 12 weeks together, I got 16.5 lbs leaner. Since continuing on my own, I’ve already lost another 8.5 lbs!!!
Her positive attitude towards fitness has been contagious and very motivating for me. She continuously planned workouts that were different, fun, and challenging but geared to my specific goals. I liked that she was able to modify a work out based on how I was feeling that day. Julia always reminded me “to listen to my body” (and she definitely practices what she teaches). It has been incredible to have a workout that I look forward to that doesn't feel like a chore.
Coach Julia truly cares about her clients and wants them to reach their potential. She really knows how to bring out the best in a person! She is able to adapt her teaching styles to reflect the manner in which her client’s best learn. I really appreciated this fact as Julia took the time to help me master the program even when I struggled to retain the information. Not once was she ever intimidating, but instead so motivating.
Julia Girman is one of the best, and I highly recommend her regardless of your age, weight, or capabilities. She can design a program for anyone that works, keeps you motivated, and keeps you wanting more for you physical and emotional well-being. I cannot say enough about Coach Julia, her knowledge of the body, and how talented she is at motivating her clients.
Julia, thank you for putting me on a path for success with the tools and knowledge to get myself to the next level. It’s because of your focus on the WHOLE PERSON (which I adored & appreciated) that I've been so successful! I can’t thank you enough for assisting in this success!
When I first met with Julia for my initial assessment, I felt comfortable right away. She is very personable and easy to talk to. She asked a lot of questions about my goals - strength, weight-loss, and overall life-balance - to come up with the BEST plan for me.
For starters, the WORKOUTS were excellent! They were not high-impact, but always challenging! She was always encouraging and quick to offer modifications when an exercise was too difficult or too easy, AND she always made sure I was doing each exercise with the correct form to activate the correct muscles and to avoid injury.
Julia’s NUTRITION plan for me was easy to follow and flexible. I was surprised to find out I wasn’t eating enough! We had a great group cooking demonstration and I picked up some tips and tricks to make meal planning easier.
Overall, I found Julia’s style of fitness coaching to really be a whole-body/mind approach. I learned that REST & STRESS MANAGEMENT are just as important as nutrition & exercise! Now, I actually SLOW-DOWN and BREATHE!
I used to feel tired all of the time and now I feel energetic. I feel and look stronger! Julia has given me the tools needed to be successful moving forward on my own. Thanks Julia, you rock!
I have tried and failed countless diets, exercise routines, and a nutritionist. I’ve even wasted money on a gym membership only to never go. NOTHING I did previously worked, until I met Julia.
I worked with Julia for a short time back in 2016 in a program she and a former colleague of hers were running together at that time to help me prepare for my wedding that September. That program turned out to be the FIRST stepping stone for teaching me how to get out of my head and into my body. Apparently I needed more than just an introduction because the next 2 years of my life were CRAZY for me and back in my head I went.
In January 2018, I decided I was tired of being tired, tired of being in pain, and tired of feeling sluggish all the time. My body was falling apart and screaming at me for help. At that moment, I knew EXACTLY who to call for help getting back on the right path. Julia has helped me do just that and so much more.
At the start of each session, Julia greets me with, "How's your body feeling today?” It’s not the typical open-ended “How are you?” question, which most people respond to with hundreds of complaints LOL. (I’m a hair dresser. I know these things!) It's almost as if Julia is able to get into my head and teach me how to LISTEN to my body, to what it's telling me, and then how to HONOR what it needs so I can feel at my BEST instead of trying to force myself to “fit in to” one of “society’s norms”. She recognizes that everyone and every body has a different journey.
Through Julia's coaching, I have kicked my addiction to coffee (and caffeine!) and have never felt better! I’ve also learned SO MUCH about how to manage my emotional and stress eating habits which is a huge breakthrough for me.
Her coaching really is very holistic - body, mind, and soul. Julia teaches awareness and how to become more aware - aware of how your body feels, where your mind is, what your surroundings are, etc. Her workout techniques include a mixture of high and low intensity, strength training, cardio intervals, and yoga. My workouts are customized to fit MY body’s needs, MY goals, and MY lifestyle.
After my initial 12 weeks with her, I felt stronger and was able to make better food choices while continuing to learn what foods are good for my body. But, I didn’t stop there. I decided that 12 weeks wasn't the end of my health journey and signed up for another 6 months. Julia is nothing short of amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable and goes above and beyond for her clients. If she is unsure of something or doesn't know about a subject, she takes the time to learn about it. Julia genuinely cares for all of her clients.
Like so many other women I know, I always put myself last. If my children and my husband were happy and healthy, then I was happy. Unfortunately, along the way I FORGOT TO TAKE CARE OF ME. When my older 2 kids were younger, I had no problems keeping up with them, but after my youngest was born, I began to struggle. Age, years of a sedentary office job, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and an undetected autoimmune thyroid disease certainly took its toll. I was so tired by the end of the day,
I could barely find the energy to make dinner and help my youngest with her homework. I literally spent years just going through the motions, moving from one task to the next, just doing enough to get through each day. I was giving my all to my family, and they were doing great, but I was overweight, out of shape, unhappy, disappointed with myself, and completely miserable.
I found Julia’s page through a mutual friend on Facebook. She was offering a 12-week transformation program for women and after much internal debate, I filled out the application. Within an hour I had a phone interview set up for later that week. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect from Julia, but it wasn’t kindness and compassion. What I was met with though, was exactly that! She so genuinely wanted to help and was so excited that I KNEW I HAD TO DO THIS FOR ME. So I made an appointment for the initial consultation and signed up for her 12-week program. When the 12 weeks were over, I FELT SO GOOD about myself, I stayed on.
When I first started working with Julia, I wanted to lose 10 pounds, increase my stamina & remember to eat 3 meals a day. I now have alarms set on my phone to remind me to eat; my 2 oldest kids have actually asked me to slow down when we we’re walking because they can’t keep up with me; and in my first 11 months, I dropped 2 pant sizes and at least 3 dress sizes!!!
While I still work on my initial healthy habits every day, I’ve also started to work on my sleep schedule & letting go of the things I can’t control instead of allowing them to overwhelm and derail me. One thing that Julia taught me that's really changed my life has been a simple breathing technique. I'd been struggling with several weeks sleepless nights, and she'd just learned this breathing technique at her yoga teacher training. She asked that I keep an open mind and try it before going to bed. It took a few nights and a lot of practice, but I actually managed to go to bed and sleep for about 4 uninterrupted hours. I was amazed, and I felt great!
Now I use this technique every night before I go to bed, and FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ABOUT 5 YEARS, I am consistently getting between 5-7 hours of sleep every night. Lately, I’ve even gotten up to 9 hours of restful sleep! I’ve begun using this same breathing technique during the day too, to help me relax when my stress level increases. It really helps me to CENTER MYSELF and FOCUS on what needs to be done. Also worth mentioning, after a few weeks of practicing the breathing and sleeping regularly, I noticed my clothes getting loose on me!
Julia is one of the most positive, uplifting people I have ever met. She teaches her clients first and foremost to have compassion for themselves and to always listen to their body. She will push you to your limits but instinctively knows when to slow down and exactly when to make you push harder. I would highly recommend Julia to anyone regardless of your goals.
I began working with Julia about 3 months before I was going on a vacation I had been dreaming about for years. The year before, I had broken my ankle while hiking on the second day of a trip to Spain, and spent the remainder of my time in the hospital. It was scary! And I REALLY didn’t want that to happen again. I was nervous about my upcoming trip because I knew I wasn’t as strong as I could be, and I was experiencing frequent lower and mid back pain.
I went to Julia with the goal of getting strong to prevent injury and to enjoy my vacation. I told her the exact areas I wanted to focus on and explained my worries to her. The first thing I noticed was that Julia listened to me. My agenda was her agenda. She came up with a program that addressed the areas of weakness I had already identified and the ones she identified but I didn’t even know about! On my own I would have never worked on balance, but as soon as she asked me to do something which challenged my balance, I knew there was a problem. And I knew it would help with injury prevention. I’d always known that good balance is essential to injury prevention, but never equated balance with strength. Now I know those two things are interconnected. Thanks Julia!
I went on my vacation and had a wonderful time swimming, walking and biking in mountainous areas of Italy. It was amazing! My back was pain free, and I enjoyed every moment injury free. I realized I had resigned myself to living with back pain but that it could, and would, improve with the proper strength training. With Julia, we didn’t just concentrate on the lower back, but also the upper back, glutes and quads because (duh!) everything is connected. We are one body not many body parts.
What I understand after working with Julia is how having an expert on your side watching you, checking in with you, adjusting to your needs on the fly, is completely different than joining a gym or working with an app or video. Before I went to Julia, I felt despondent about my back pain and afraid. Working with her gave me hope that I can be strong enough to enjoy physical activity and not be scared of it.
I started working with Julia back in May 2013 when she was working out of River Bend Athletic Club. As a long time member there, I had never worked with a personal trainer before. I was beginning to doubt the effectiveness of my own workouts as the lingering aches and pains along with decreased flexibility were catching up with me. I was unfamiliar with many of the exercises I saw Julia and her clients performing, but was curious so decided it was time for a workout "reset".
My initial goals were to improve flexibility and posture while maintaining strength. Within the first 5 months, I saw noticeable improvements in all of these areas. Julia even showed me exercises to help with chronic pain/discomfort in my neck and shoulder. After performing those exercises regularly for a couple of months, my neck and shoulder problems practically disappeared!
Julia keeps things interesting by switching up my program and the exercises periodically. The workouts are always challenging but fun. With all these new exercises, I also now have a full arsenal to draw upon for the times I'm on my own. As an added bonus, although improved cardio performance wasn't one of my initial goals, Julia provided me with an cardio interval training program for my cardio days, which was more effective and efficient than what I'd been doing.
Although I was initially impressed by her credentials and the ways in which she worked with her other clients, it's her positive attitude keeps me motivated. I've seen so many positive results already, and I know I will continue to. Thanks Julia!
I came to Julia after a year of struggling to return to my active, outdoorsy lifestyle. I have always been a sailor, boater, yogi, cyclist, hiker, paddle-boarder, traveler…. And for years I’d also been a distance runner and, more recently, a devotee of high-impact, high-intensity bootcamp-style exercise.
Turns out these high-impact activities took their toll . In June 2016, years of manageable back pain flared up so badly that I was sidelined from everything. Even walking hurt. I saw a spinal surgeon, got a depressing diagnosis about some serious disk issues, and didn’t know where to go next in order to manage the problem, return to an active lifestyle and hopefully avoid the surgery that seemed to loom in my future. I saw physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, functional movement specialists and massage therapists….yet nothing seemed to do the trick. Not only could I no longer run and jump – I couldn’t even take a walk around town with my husband without risking a flare-up.
Things got better thanks to my own personal dream team - Julia Girman and Guerrino Boni. I went to Guerrino for physical therapy, and he finally set me on the right track with his individualized approach, careful listening, and understanding of my need to get strong and active once again. Then, Guerrino suggested I see Julia.
From day one, Julia assessed me as an individual with my own unique set of strengths and challenges. She worked as a team with Guerrino to determine what exercises I should try and what I should avoid. Julia started me slowly and carefully, building gradually upon my PT exercises, and consulted with Guerrino whenever I experienced pain or problems doing an exercise. This gave me confidence that I wouldn’t have another flare-up. When I got excited and wanted to ramp up too fast, she coached me well – helping me understand that I needed to listen to my body and learn a new approach to exercise if I wanted to become strong and active once again.
By the end of my initial 3-month program with Julia, I was feeling great – but also quite nervous about our annual vacation camping in Maine. Would I be able to walk, hike, paddle and sail pain-free? Would my back seize up again after a week without Julia carefully-curated exercise program and Guerrino’s PT stretches?
Fortunately, things could not have gone better! I had a wonderful active vacation with family and friends doing all of my favorite things. We even climbed Acadia National Park (Maine)’s most challenging hike, Precipice Trail, and enjoyed the spectacular views from the summit. When I got to the top I knew that I owed that hike – and that whole vacation, and everything that I can do once again – to Julia and Guerrino. I look forward to continuing my workouts with Julia and to continuing my path toward recovery.
For the past nine years, I have had the privilege of having Ms. Julia Girman as my Personal Trainer. She succeeded another Trainer with whom I had been working with sporadically. My goals were, at that time, to maintain strength and flexibility as I grew older and enjoy active sports such as golf, ice skating with grandchildren and sailing. In essence, be healthier. Now, at my current age of 88, I realize even more, the benefits of her knowledge, work effort, and encouragement.
At this point, I am stronger, have more flexibility, endurance, and feel in better health than I was nine years ago. This is primarily because Ms. Girman has some patience in not rushing me to or through an exercise or strength function for which I am not ready to achieve or incapable of doing at that time. Now, I am accomplishing my goals of being more fit, flexible and stronger in daily or sports related tasks. My workouts, although challenging at times, are fun and in a sequence to see accomplishments. I might add that Julia Girman is as well very well versed in Nutrition and has assisted me in better food intake and its management.
Without qualification, I recommend her highly to anyone interested in an improved and healthier lifestyle. She is punctual, knows her job, and is excellent at it with a great and supportive attitude towards her clients.
Cordially yours,
Bradford R. Boss
Julia Girman saved my life.
It all started when I got busted by my son. I had been using my age, sex and an already robust schedule of house repair and garden maintenance to bolster my claim that I really couldn’t lose weight. In fact, I was gaining it and was up to 187 lbs on a 5’7” frame. “Mom, if you say you can’t lose weight but are healthy, then why are you cooking popcorn shrimp?” BUSTED!
I decided to really try and do something about it. Age 66 meant to me that pain was going to be a constant factor until I died, in perhaps 30 years or less. It meant heating pads, armchairs and lots of books. Then I wandered into our local gym and saw a friend working out with Julia. Right there, in front of Julia, I asked him what he thought of the workouts with her. “I’ve been working with Julia for seven years, I’m 87 years old and I have no more pain.” Wow. And wow.
I immediately signed up for a consult, even while wondering about the preview health form she asked me to fill out. It seemd to be so in-depth and covered so much of my health history. Almost like a doctor would. I wondered “Why so much info?” As time has gone on and I’ve been meeting faithfully with Julia twice a week for three months so far, I understand why she was so thorough. She is thoughtful and very responsible and uses every bit of my personal info to help me grow in strength and flexibility. It’s just not something you could get from a “one work-out plan fits all” gym design.
Julia uses all my health and body information to custom design my workouts with her. If my lower back, always a constant issue, has been acting up, she re-designs and invents fantastic workouts which don’t hurt my back and still make me stronger. And the miracle is that after 30 years of pain meds for my lower back Julia gave me some very easy and simple postures: asanas, and the pain went away for several days!! Wow. And wow. I really suddenly think I can beat this life-long pain.
If anyone reading this is wondering if they too can make these changes and turn their lives around, don’t be afraid. She always holds me back from overdoing any of it and instead works me gently and slowly into more endurance, weight bearing and flexibility. I can’t say it’s painless, it is good hard work and I am so much happier -- perhaps the happiest I’ve been in my life.
Julia asks me constantly how each posture is feeling and where in my body I’m feeling it to
make sure we are getting it right. When I feel ready to stop at 17 repetitions instead of pushing for 20, she knows when to encourage me to go on or to stop.
With dietary changes, I’ve lost 25 pounds since August 1, with another 20 to go. And that means a lot more of what remains will be muscle weight. Thanks to Julia.
Now, my vision of life going forward is the best and hardest body I’ve had since my teens, the best sleep of my life and the best and the most fun hiking, skiing, rowing and walking ever. I will be putting on clothing and knowing it looks good, without having to turn sideways to see if the belly bulge shows too much. That belly bulge is almost gone!! Wow. And in 4 years I’ll be 70. Now you see why I say truthfully, Julia saved my life.
I have been working with Julia for about 2 years now. She is knowledgeable, down to earth, and cares deeply about fitness, nutrition, and the success of her clients. Julia really takes the time to get to know her clients and their bodies to be able to accommodate workouts that will best suit them and their goals.
After working with Julia for a year, I found out I was pregnant. She went above and beyond to work with me and accommodate different workouts that were safe and beneficial for me. I struggled with pelvic pressure and pain and lightheadedness due to pregnancy, and Julia provided me relief and additional exercises that she knew would not aggravate these symptoms.
Julia genuinely cared and took the time out of her schedule to research and adjust my workout plan as I progressed with my pregnancy. I worked out with Julia throughout the entire pregnancy and because of her dedication and coaching, I felt strong and was able to bounce back more quickly after this childbirth than in the past. Thank you, Julia, for making me feel stronger as a mother and for making me and my baby healthier!
I saw Julia’s informational poster and business card while I was going to Physical Therapy for my back. As Physical Therapy was coming to an end, I wanted to continue the PT exercises and learn new exercises. After talking to Julia, I felt hopeful and excited to train with her.
One of my main goals was to have more mobility in my back. I was initially afraid to move my back during different exercises because it had been so uncomfortable. Initially, my programs focused on developing more core strength. As I became more confident that I was moving in the right direction given exercises recommended for me, Julia expanded my program to build total body strength. I now know what I am capable of and able to do under Julia’s guidance. Also, I now think about my posture and core strength everywhere I go! Even though I have setbacks with my back, I get right back on track with the help of Julia and my Chiropractor.
Working with Julia is one of the best decisions I have ever made. She is professional, supportive, and kind. I feel like I have my life back and cannot imagine ever not working with her in the future.
I heard about Julia through a friend, and once I met her and realized how much positive energy she exudes, I knew I had to work with her!
My original goals way back when I first started were just to “get skinny quickly”. I wasn’t thinking about changing my mindset from focusing how my body looked to feeling healthy. Instead, I was focused on "fitting into a standard" that I thought I needed to achieve.
Through working with Julia, I have realized that it's more important to feel strong and healthy and good about what my body can achieve no matter what size it is, than to just have a goal of being skinny for no other purpose.
When going through her training process, I feel stronger and happier and really feel a sense of achievement as my body accomplishes levels of strength and stamina that I never knew it could, and my training no longer becomes about how I look, but how I feel. Her whole coaching approach encourages me to take a look at how I treat myself and my body and gives me the education I need to make life changing decisions, not just temporary fixes.
Julia is a great coach, super positive, super healthy and genuinely wants to help you become the best version of yourself!
